Bookkeeping services

Six services at £30 an hour, for businesses anywhere in the UK. Take all of them or just the parts that keep getting pushed to Sunday.

Day-to-day bookkeeping

The foundation everything else sits on. Transactions get recorded and categorised as they happen rather than in a panic before a deadline, so any question about the business can be answered the day you ask it.

What's included

  • Sales and purchase transactions entered and categorised
  • Expenses and receipts captured, coded and filed digitally
  • Supplier invoices logged and matched to payments
  • Petty cash and card spending reconciled
  • Your chart of accounts kept sensible as the business changes

Who it suits

Sole traders, tradespeople, shops, cafés and small limited companies — anyone whose paperwork currently lives in a drawer, a van, or a photo roll.

VAT returns and MTD for Income Tax

HMRC now expects digital records and returns sent through compatible software. I’ll prepare and submit your VAT returns and your Making Tax Digital for Income Tax updates, so every deadline is met without you having to think about it.

What's included

  • Quarterly VAT returns prepared, checked with you, then submitted to HMRC
  • Digital records kept to Making Tax Digital standards
  • Quarterly MTD for Income Tax updates submitted on time
  • MTD-compatible software set up and connected to HMRC if you’re not already
  • A reminder of what’s due and when, ahead of every deadline

Worth knowing

MTD for Income Tax applies to sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 from April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027 and £20,000 in April 2028, so it’s worth getting set up early.

Bank reconciliation

Every transaction in the books matched against the bank statement until the two agree exactly. It sounds like housekeeping, and it is — but it's where duplicated payments, missed income and forgotten subscriptions get caught.

What's included

  • All business accounts and cards reconciled on a set schedule
  • Unmatched and duplicated items investigated, not guessed at
  • Queries collected into one short list rather than drip-fed to you
  • A closing position you can rely on at the end of each period

Invoicing & credit control

Plenty of small businesses aren't short of work — they're short of cash because invoices went out late and nobody chased them. Handing this over usually pays for itself faster than anything else on this page.

What's included

  • Invoices raised from your job sheets or timesheets and sent promptly
  • Payment terms applied consistently across every customer
  • Polite, scheduled chasing of anything overdue
  • An aged debtor list so you always know who owes what
  • A heads-up when a customer's payment habits start slipping

Monthly reports

Accurate books are only half the value. The other half is seeing clearly where the business stands, so your key reports land in your inbox every month.

What's included

  • Profit and loss summary and balance sheet attached
  • Aged debtors and creditors at a glance
  • Comparison against last month and the same month last year

Year-end handover

Year-end account reconciliations completed, then the whole lot handed over to your accountant: complete, reconciled and documented, with the queries already answered.

What's included

  • Full-year records reconciled and closed off
  • Supporting documents organised and accessible
  • Accruals, prepayments and adjustments noted for your accountant
  • Direct liaison with your accountant so you're not the go-between

Catching up

Behind by months or years? Catch-up work is charged at the same £30 an hour, and you’ll get an estimate of the hours before anything starts, so you know what the clean-up will cost.

Pricing

Work is charged at £30 an hour, with a minimum charge of £30 covering up to the first hour. Beyond that you only pay for the time your books actually take. There's no retainer and no minimum term, which suits a business whose paperwork is light some months and heavy in others. You'll get an honest estimate of the hours involved before anything starts, and I'll flag it in advance if anything looks like running over.

Not sure which parts you need?

That's normal, and it's what the first conversation is for. Describe the business and I'll tell you what's worth handing over and what you can reasonably keep doing yourself.
